Deks Olje 1 & 2 and Maintenance
Deks Olje 1
Prepare
wood:
The surface
must be clean, dust free and DRY
Deks Olje 1 is a hard drying, deep penetrating oil that
will protect your wood against water ingress and the harsh effects of the sun.
It will bring out the grain and natural colour of the wood and the finish will
be MATT.
*NB Even though Deks Olje 1 is hard
drying, Deks Olje 1 is an OIL it is not a varnish so please read the suggested
maintenance sections carefully
Work in
small areas:
Coat the
surface using a brush or roller with Deks Olje 1
As soon as
the oil has soaked into the wood (the glossy wet look will start to disappear –
we are talking about one to ten minutes time span) apply another coat of Deks Olje 11 over the area.
Continue
applying coats of Deks Olje 1 until
you have completely saturated the wood.
How many coats you have to apply before
full penetration is achieved depends on the woods porosity and the fineness of
the finished surface.
COMPLETE
SATURATION: You
will know that the wood is fully saturated when after 10 to 15 minutes after
having coated the surface, the wood is still glossy wet looking.
IMPORTANT:
NOW YOU MUST TAKE A LINT-FREE DRY
CLOTH AND WIPE THE SURFACE YOU HAVE BEEN SATURATING.
WIPE
OFF ALL EXCESS OIL.
DO
NOT LEAVE ANY AREA WET LOOKING.
Move onto
the next small area for saturating and repeat the process until the entire
surface you wish to saturate has been covered.
NB
Deks Olje #1 IS AN OIL and is NOT “NO
MAINTENANCE” it is a “LOW MAINTENANCE” product
FOR EASY
TROUBLE FREE MAINTENANCE. (Every One, two or three months depending on your
situation **See notes on Criteria**)
Before your surface starts to become dull, clean the surface (a normal
wash rinse and dry). This will remove any surface dirt and grease. Then with a
lint free cloth dampened down with Deks Olje 1 wipe down the cleaned
surface. After about 5-10 minutes go back and buff the surface with a dry lint
free cloth. This will remove any excess oil and bring back a natural lustre to
the wood
When your woodwork begins to look a
little bit dull
Clean the
surface well as above and rub down lightly with an AllBright 3M pot scourer
over the area to be touched up. Apply another coat of Deks Olje 1 with a brush
over the area that has gone dull allow the oil to saturate for 5-10 minutes
then wipe off any excess oil and allow to dry. Then Buff. Your wood will be
back to it’s beautiful self.
If your woodwork is starting
to go grey and or looking very dry and dull in places.
This
means that while there will still be some oil deep in the wood your surface
wood is now back to bare wood. You will need to clean the surface with Dekswood Cleaner to remove any grey, oxidised wood and bring back the original
brightness and colour back to your wood. Rinse well and then allow the wood to
thoroughly dry and then follow the Deks Olje 1 Re-Saturation process
over the whole area making certain that the exposed areas are properly
saturated. Once you have completed the saturation process wipe off the excess
oil with a dry, lint free cloth and buff
Deks Olje #2
Deks Olje #2 will give you a HIGH GLOSS, hard drying oil finish, that once applied and
maintained properly will not crack, peel
or flake & should never require sanding again.
**REMEMBER Even though Deks Olje #2 is hard
drying and looks like a gloss varnish, Deks Olje #2 is an OIL it is important
that you read the suggested mainDeks Olje #2tenance sections carefully so as to get the
best short and long term results
To prepare
the wood
FIRST: THE WOOD MUST BE FULLY SATURATED WITH Deks Olje #2
Apply Deks Olje 1 as above and allow to
completely dry before applying Deks Olje #2 (about 48 hours)
Remove all
traces of dust or dirt with a lint free cloth.
Apply the
first coat of Deks Olje #2 over the
entire surface to be coated. Leave to dry for at least 24- hours
Once dry
and before applying the next coat make sure that the surface is free of any
dust or dirt.
REMEMBER: any dust or dirt left on the surface will be
trapped there as each layer of oil dries to a hard durable finish
Apply each
further coat as above allowing GOOD
drying time between each coat
2 Coats
should give a Deep high gloss finish 3-4 Coats will give you an extra
deep HIGH GLOSS FINISH
NB
Deks Olje #2 is an OIL and is NOT “NO
MAINTENANCE” it is a “LOW MAINTENANCE” product
For EASY
TROUBLE FREE MAINTENANCE. (Every One, two or three months depending on your
situation **See notes on Criteria**)
Before your surface
starts to become dull

little bit dull
Clean the
surface well and rub down lightly with a soft cloth over the area
to be touched up. With a brush apply another coat of Deks Olje #2 over the area that has gone dull and allow to dry. The
touched up area will blend in Perfectly & your wood will be back to it’s
beautiful self.

wood to thoroughly dry and then follow the Deks Olje 1 Re-Saturation
process over the exposed bare wood areas making certain that the exposed areas
are properly saturated. Once you have completed the saturation process wipe off
the excess oil with dry lint free cloth. Allow to dry for at least 24hrs and
then re-apply
Deks Olje #2 over the whole area with 2,3 or 4 coats as needed.
Deks Olje- Choice & Preparation
DEKS OLJE The Choice and the Preparation of your surface
THE KEY TO THE EFFECTIVE USE AND MAINTENANCE OF DEKS OLJE IS TO REMEMBER THAT DEKS OLJE IS AN OIL AND AS SUCH
NEEDS TO BE TREATED AS AN OIL. IT IS NOT A VARNISH ALTHOUGH THE END RESULT MAY
LOOK LIKE A VARNISH
It is very important to understand this fact if
you are to get the best from the short and long term results of your
application of Deks Olje.
Because Deks Olje is an OIL your maintenance will
be more frequent than the maintenance say on a good marine varnish BUT it will
also be a whole lot more simple and easy and with a whole lot less elbow grease
required, indeed it can be so simple so as to be included as one of your not so
often cleaning routines. IT IS THAT EASY.
CRITERIA that will
effect the durability of the coating and maintenance requirements
- The prevailing climatic conditions.
An
exterior coating on a boat or deck in the Mediterranean will fare far better than an
exterior coating on a boat or deck say in Thailand, New Zeal-and or South Africa.
- What sort of use the surface gets subjected to.
A foot
tread for instance would take much more of a beating than
your overall deck area because of the increase in traffic.
- What sort of protection does the surface get?
- Is it an interior surface or an exterior surface?
- If it is exterior does the area get some sort of protection or is the surface exposed to the elements?
Preparing the wood surface.
For Deks Olje to work your starting
surface must be bare, raw wood
If wood has been previously coated with another
product this must be removed.
PREVIOUSLY VARNISHED WOOD
If wood was
coated with varnish:
Remove all
traces of varnish with a good paint remover like Citri Strip or sand down to bare wood
PREVIOUSLY OILED, LINSEED OILED OR WAXED WOOD
If wood has
been coated with other oils, linseed based oils or a wax based oil products
Remove with
PowerLift (this, while cleaning the
wood may
darken it so it is best to brighten the wood once you have used the PowerLift with Dekswood Cleaner).
Use fresh
water and a strong pressurized garden hose nossel or high-pressure washer.
NB** Allow the wood to dry before applying any
further finish (about 2-3 days)
GREY WEATHERED WOOD
If wood is
bare but turned a weathered grey
Clean with Dekswood Cleaner, this will brighten
and clean the wood and bring it back to its natural colour
Wash wood
down well after cleaning with Dekswood Cleaner
Use fresh water
and a strong pressurized garden hose nossle or high-pressure washer.
NB** Allow the wood to dry before
applying any further finish (about 2-3 days)
TIP: When
cleaning your wood use a soft nylon brush and NEVER brush with the grain but ALWAYS
brush against the grain.
REMEMBER: The smoother the surface of whatever wood you
have chosen the better the coverage you will achieve

Penetrol Woodoil -Wooden floors
PENETROL WOODOIL or DEKS OLJE 1
WOODEN FLOORS
How to obtain a magnificent looking wooden floor with Penetrol Woodoil or Deks Olje #1
1. Make sure the floor is clean and open pored. This may require sanding which will also remove all traces of previous floor finishes.
2. The floor should be degreased with methylated spirits and paper tissue until there are no more traces of dirt and sanding dust on the paper.
3. Apply Penetrol Woodoil or Deks Olje #1 in such a manner that each coat is applied as soon as the previous one has been absorbed. 2 to 5 coats may be required depending on the porosity of the wood. The aim is to achieve saturation of the timber with the oil. Hardwood will use less material.
4. Any surplus oil and puddles must be wiped off after treatment is completed and before the surface has dried. It is important that no oil remains on the surface but is in the wood. It is better to use one less coat in order to achieve this.
5. Allow to dry overnight. The next day the surface will already look nice but dullish.
6. Apply a small puddle of the oil to the floor and place the polishing machine over it. Use 3M or similar buffing pads with a rotary type unit where the whole weight of the machine rests on the rotating disc.
7. Polish with a half circular motion from side to side until the oil is disappearing. Repeat until the floor has obtained a silken smooth finish and a non-stick feel. This may call for 2,3 or even four repetitions until it feels as though you are moving the machine on wet ice and very little oil is needed to make it glide.
8. Once this finish is achieved leave the floor for a few hours of good drying. You will be astonished by how beautiful your floor looks.
Maintenance is easy with a damp cloth and luke warm water with a few drops of dish washing liquid. Any water marks just need a little oil applied for about 5 minutes and then wiped off. Any damage to the floor is easily fixed by applying some more Penetrol Woodoil or Deks Olje #1 with a soft cloth and a rubbing motion.
NOTE: The polishing machine will have the tendency to throw small droplets of oil. Wipe these up before they can dry. Protect walls etc with a drop cloth or newspaper. Use good ventilation during the application.
DO NOT USE STRONG DETERGENTS BUT TREAT YOUR FLOOR LIKE YOU WOULD FURNITURE.
NB: Used cloths and tissues should be unfolded and air dried before discarding according to local regulations.
